Eliza Baynard was a young Cherokee girs who attended Valley Towns Mission School, a Baptist mission in western North Carolina. Her Cherokee name is not known because she was the recipient of a beneficiary name, a common practice in early mission schools. The school was approved in 1819 by the Grand Council of Chiefs and the children were taught in their own language. The school became a an important center of Cherokee scholarship and resistance to Indian removal policies. Stitches are Cross over Two and over one for the letters. Chain and Satin are featured in the bow and the model stitcher has given us stitching tips. Profits go to MESDA.
